Challenge: In 2024, international publication 46pgs Magazine invited select collage artists, including me, to design for their final issue.
Approach: My digital process involves combining photographs from a specific time or place into a single, comprehensive collage. The time spent creating allows for reflection, and the blended and altered layers result in a new representation of the subject.
At the beginning of the project, while working with my various images, I saw that in the textures, colors, and wear, the city was the ultimate art. By the end of the creative process, by living in the city and participating in the day-to-day, I realize I've become a collaborator in "The City as Art."
Results: The final collages span three full spreads and include images from the Bay Area. These and numerous spreads from various collage artists from around the world make up this issue. Well after the publication, we remain a connected and thriving online community.
